Taklamakan is named after the largest sand desert in China, and resembles sand dunes formed with a mysterious and natural harmony. Featuring alder, policor, and lacquered options, Taklamakan brings depth and warmth to usage spaces.

Suitable for a variety of spaces including hotels, waiting rooms, universities, cafés, and restaurants, Taklamakan was selected for permanent collection of Marta Herford Modern Art Museum in 2006.

Materials

The 100% recyclable E1 standard wood and packaging materials used in the manufacture of Taklamakan.

Production

Taklamakan is manufactured at Numaş A.Ş. facilities, which holds the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System Standard and OHSAS 18001 Health and Safety Management System Standard certificates.

Waste Management

At Numaş A.Ş., the waste chemical materials like powder paint, wet paint, thinner, chemical material packaging, phosphate sludge and laser dust are sent to relevant companies for recycling or are disposed in a manner that will not harm the environment.

Transport

Taklamakan’s packaging is minimal in size, to decrease energy use during transportation.

Use

The quality standards of Taklamakan’s manufacturing and material, allow the product to have a long life. International bodies certify its high level of product security.

End of Life

The materials used in the manufacturing of Taklamakan may be re-used or recycled at the end of its product life.

Award

In 1999, Taklamakan won the IFDA Furniture Design Award organized in Japan, with its "Design with Love, Love with Wood" motto. In 2006, it was selected to the permanent collection of Marta Herford Modern Art Museum, designed by one of the world’s leading architects Frank O. Gehry. Finally, in 2008 it was awarded Dutch 2008: Good Industrial Design Award.

Atilla KUZU

Born in 1963 in Istanbul, Atilla Kuzu graduated from the Interior Design Department, Fine Arts Faculty of Industrial Design of Marmara University in 1987. He worked at Temel Sanat Mimarlık Ofisi (Architectural Firm) in 1986-1987, Redesign Mimarlık Ofisi (Architectural Firm) in 1987-1988 and Leo Design Mimarlık Ofisi (Architectural Firm) in 1988-1989. Kuzu worked at Midek A.Ş. between 1990 and 1994, renewed, and constructed the Beymen, Derimod, Vakko, Yargıcı and Roman stores. In 1994, he cofounded Zoom Tasarım Proje Uygulama (Zoom TPU/Design Project Application) with Levent Çırpıcı.
